Our Top 10 Organizing Tips for Home

As we get into the full swing of fall (sigh), now is the time many of us start thinking about getting organized and back into our busy everyday routines.

After a long day at the office, your home should be a relaxing place where you can unwind and decompress - and I’m sure you’ll agree nothing feels better than walking into a neat, clean space.

Here are a few of our favorite tips to organize each room in your house:

The Kitchen

1. Make sure your appliances are accessible

What items do you use most frequently? For example, if you make coffee and toast every morning, your coffee maker and toaster should be on the counter. Also, pots and pans should be located near the stove so when you’re cooking everything is within reach.Whatever appliances you don’t use on a daily basis should be stored.

2. Store similar items together

Cookware should be separated from bakeware, and fine dinner ware should be separated from the bowls, plates and glasses that you use daily. Everyday dishes should go on a lower shelf that’s easy to reach and plates for special occasions should go on the higher shelves.

3. Use clear bins with labels

See through storage containers will be useful for coffee, tea, flour, sugar and more. This will not only help you stay organized, but it will save you a ton of time looking for where things are located. Also, when your kids are scouring the pantry for snacks after school, they will be easy to find.In terms of labels, you can use a label maker that creates personalized labels or if you want to keep it simple, you can buy sheets of peel-able labels at a school supply store. Personally, we’re big fans of the cute handwritten chalkboard labels – such a lovely personal touch

4. Start hanging

This is one of the best ways to save space and stay organized. The good news is you can hang almost anything – from your pots, pans and coffee mugs to fruit baskets - the sky’s the limit!

The Bathroom

5. Store what you use daily in your medicine cabinet

This includes skincare, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and hair products.

6. Utilize the wall space

Over the toilet is an excellent place for towels and extra toiletries. There are shelving units specifically designed for bathrooms to maximize your storage. Also, a mounted shower caddy will open up more space and help organize clutter around the shower.

7. Use bins under the sink

This will be useful for blow dryers, curling irons and other hair tools that can take up a lot of space. Under the sink is also a great spot to store extra dish soap and cleaning products.

The Living Room

8. Use shelving units

Shelving units are not only extremely versatile, but they add to the décor and visual appeal of any room. A shelving unit can act as a TV stand, end table, or whatever you prefer. Get creative!

9. Buy multipurpose furniture

Wouldn’t it be useful to have a coffee table with drawers and better yet, one that opens from the top where you can store knick-knacks? How about a storage bench below your windowsill where you can keep blankets or books? The goal is to eliminate as much clutter as possible, and having furniture that also acts as storage is one of the best ways to keep your living room neat and clean

10. Declutter

As one of the largest rooms in the house, there is probably a ton of stuff in your living room that has no business being there. Stacks of magazines, board games, old electronics – is that a VCR?! Tisk, tisk.
