Upgrading Your Bathroom on a Budget

It’s no secret bathroom expenses can add up. Between the plumbing, lighting, countertops, flooring, and installation fees, the average bathroom remodel can cost anywhere between $8,000 to $10,000.

Yikes!

If you're looking to renovate, there are many creative ways to spruce up your space without spending a fortune. That's why we’ve created a list of tips that cost under $100.

1. Paint ($35-$40)

Nothing transforms a room quite like a fresh coat of paint. Since bathrooms are on the smaller side, it’s a great room to experiment with different color themes. For example, if you want to make the room appear larger, painting vertical stripes creates the illusion of a bigger space.

2. Give your cabinets and drawers a hardware makeover ($20-$35)

Dressing up your cabinets with new handles is a cheap and easy way to make old furniture appear new. Depending on your décor and color theme, there's a wide variety of styles to choose from.

3. Frame the mirror ($5 - $30)

A frame is a simple way to add some personality to a basic plate-glass mirror. All you need is wood/trim, paneling adhesive, and paint.

After taking the mirror’s measurements, go to your local home improvement store and have the molding cut, so all that’s left is painting and putting the pieces together.

4. Floating shelves ($5 - $15)

Shelves are a lovely touch to any room - not to mention they are incredibly practical when it comes to storage. You can keep it simple and cost effective by painting or staining a few wooden planks. The price varies depending on the size and type of wood.

5. Track lighting ($50 - $75)

Light fixtures can be expensive, but thankfully there are many affordable options. Whether your taste is modern or casual and traditional, many types of track lighting can reflect the mood you’re going for.

6. New accessories ($25 - $75)

This includes shower curtains, hand towels, a bath mat, toothbrush holder, tissue holder and more. The accessories will be the finishing touches that tie everything together.

7. Do a thorough clean ($19)

This seems obvious, but all the home improvements in the world won’t make a difference if the space isn’t clean. The bathroom is a breeding ground for mold and bacteria, so scrub down and disinfect all the surfaces.
